Cuba finish thirteenth as they beat Japan in straight sets

 

Abrahan Alfonso Gavilan was one of the top scorers for Cuba with 13 points.

Mexicali, Mexico, September 20, 2015 - Cuba finished in place 13 after winning against Japan 25-21, 25-19 and 25-16.

Miguel David Gutierrez and Abrahan Alfonso Gavilan finished as top scorers for the Cuban team after recording 13 and 9 points respectively.

On the Japanese side of the net, Tsubasa Hisahara, Ataru Kumakura and Kenta Takanashi, recorded 9 points apiece.

Japan had their best performance in the first set where fought hard against Cuba to dominate the game on the net by using their speed, but the Cuban team worked on with their blocking strategy to have a full control of the situation.

Cuba overcame 12-3 in blocking with Javier Concepcion as their best man in this department.

Concepcion blocked for a total of 4 points while his teammates Abrahan Alfonso Gavilan and Ricardo Calvo finished with 3 apiece.

Cuba also put pressure by serving over the Asian team and closed with a 5-1 dominance with 3 aces of Miguel David Gutierrez after one hour and 16 minutes of time.
