Argentinians, prepared for long and tough matches

Bruno Lima of Argentina scored 23 points for the South American squad.

Tijuana, Mexico, September 11, 2015 - For Argentinian coach Alejandro Grossi, this world championship is a great challenge, in a very tough pool, but he expects things can pay off for his players effort.

“Matches will be long and tough, just like today against USA. But we aspire to play long matches as we expect to win against two big teams like Russia and Poland,” said Grossi after the victory in five sets against USA.

“It was a difficult match. It became so complicated for us because the United States closed the sets too tightly. We could not make clear what was going on and felt a little bit nervous. In the first set we could finally make it and could solve a very a match that was really tough.”

Meanwhile, American coach, Dan Friend remarked: “Our guys fought really hard. Started to get better as the match went on and were more aggressive, we went to five sets against Argentina. Their defense is strong and really stepped up to win in game five, it was a good win by those guys.”

Friend mentioned that he wants that his team can play more aggressively. “If we were as aggressive as we did in this match,  we can be able to score more points and get an opportunity to win,” Friend concluded.

“Basically we are a strong and very united team. We will enjoy this victory and we also have to think about Russia as our next rival,” said Gaston Fernandez, captain of Argentina.

USA also had good tallies with Andrew Benesh, who scored 23, the same as Bruno Lima did for the Sputh American team. United States´ John Hatch. “We were so close, we struggled to get started, but finally we found our rhythm and we are planning to play a bigger volleyball. We wished we could get a couple of more points back”, said Hatch.

“We know they (Argentina) are a very tough opponent and this is a tough pool, but we expect to win some games and play our best volleyball,” he finished.
